Getting into e-commerce can be a daunting task. Between Shopify, BigCommerce, Squarespace, and a host of others, how is one to choose the right platform that will be feature-rich while remaining easy to use? Although this space may seem overpopulated, there’s another contender that readers may not have heard of – 3dcart. Founded in 1997, 3dcart is a growth-focused SaaS platform geared for online businesses of all sizes. Let’s take a look at the attributes of 3dcart and how it compares to its competitors.

  • Features: 3dcart can do everything that e-commerce businesses need it to do. It offers all of the things that you would come to expect from this type of platform and then some. Some highlights are a robust website builder, a theme editor, hosting, built-in integration with platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Facebook Mobile responsiveness, SEO and marketing tools, and a blogging platform. If 3dcart doesn’t offer something that you’re looking for in an e-commerce platform, you can probably find it on their app store. While it might not be as extensive as the likes of Shopify or BigCommerce, it’ll suffice for the majority of users. 3dcart also allows for integration using their API if your tech team wants to get crazy. Between the built-in features, app store, and API, most users will be happy with 3dcart at every pricing level.
  • Pricing: Pricing is a make-it-or-break-it issue for most online stores, and providing competitive options for companies of all sizes can be tricky. Luckily, 3dcart has four pricing plans for e-commerce entrepreneurs: Startup Store, Basic Store, Plus Store, and Pro Store. These options range from $19.00 per month to $229.00 per month (with another $10.00 per month per user beyond the maximum of 15). In general, this is pretty comparable to other e-commerce platforms. You can get the best e-Commerce features for dropshipping, for only $9.99/month. Read for more here.
  • No transaction fees: While the month pricing may be typical for the industry, there is something notable about 3dcart’s pricing. They don’t charge transaction fees. Therefore, this is more than can be said for some large platforms (looking at you Shopify!). While those transaction fees are quite small, they can add up as business scales. It’s something to keep in mind.
  • Ease of Use: Web applications are getting more and more user-friendly all the time. It’s a great thing for businesses where everyone is learning new tools on the fly. How does 3dcart stack up in the usability department? Your experience may vary depending on your experience. Those familiar with applications like WordPress and Shopify should feel right at home. The layout is clean and straightforward, so if you’re not familiar with setting up an internet store, you also shouldn’t struggle too much. 3dcart provides video and other resources to help users along the way. Overall, 3dcart is pretty comparable to other platforms in this regard.
  • SEO: In the age of search engine gatekeepers handling ridiculous amounts of internet traffic, SEO can be what pushes your online store to new heights or send it crashing into the ground. It can’t be overstated just how important it is for online businesses to have substantial SEO rankings. The people at 3dcart know this, and that’s why they market themselves as “the leading e-commerce software for SEO”. How much merit does this bold claim have, though? 3dcart includes a lot of cool options for tweaking your SEO for those who know how to use them. However, your mileage may vary depending on your familiarity with the subject. 3dcart’s built-in blogging platform is also a great way to boost your site if you haven’t started blogging yet.
  • Integrations: With the sheer amount of products businesses are using to perform their essential functions, your e-commerce platform must play nicely with all or your other necessary tools. This won’t be a problem with 3dcart. Some of the popular software solutions that integrate with 3dcard include Doba, eBay, Facebook Connect, LiveChat, Quickbooks, Zapier. Again, 3dcart’s app store has tons of other integrations available. Some of them are free, some of them aren’t. Unless you’re using something overly obscure, you’ll probably be okay.
  • Payment Options: Finally, we have something that 3dcart truly excels in. With over 200 different gateways available for payment, every realistic avenue of payment is covered here. This number blows the competition out of the water. BigCommerce and Shopify don’t even come close.
  • Security: Tech departments should rest easy knowing that 3dcart is a safe platform. It’s level 1 PCI compliant, meaning it’s certifiably as secure as it can get. Do 3dcart’s competitors have security issues? They don’t have any that I’m aware of but rest assured that it’s not an issue here either.
  • Customer Support: 3dcart offers 24/7 support. Their knowledge base is extensive, with plenty of articles and videos, and customer reviews seem overall positive with the quality of support that they’ve received. At any moment, phone and text chat support is only a few seconds away, improving the user experience even further.

  • Add-ons can get expensive: While the month-to-month pricing of 3dcart is fair, some of the add-ons in the app store are quite costly. If there is some functionality vital to your team’s workflow, it’ll be worth checking out the price on the app store before pulling out that credit card.
  • The SEO is great but may not be better than competitors.  However, your 3dcart store should rank pretty well. However, your Shopify or Magento store will also rank well. SEO’s a tricky subject that’s always changing, so it’s hard to recommend one platform over another here. Again, 3dcart comes in as the right choice but not necessarily better than the competition.
  • Useability may vary: 3dcart is generally friendly, but some less experienced users may still struggle. Ease of use is always debatable, so while we found the platform transparent and straightforward, some reviewers would beg to differ. In the end, you’ll have to do a trial and see how it feels for you.
  • Templating: 3dcart provides a good number of free templates. They’re pretty uninteresting and straightforward, but they should suffice for a lot of online stores. As a result, if you’re looking to have a stunning online store, then there are also plenty of premium templates that are pretty. Of course, there is also the ability to customize the HTML and CSS yourself to make your store truly unique if you want to go that route. However, if you’re looking for an extensive list of free, high-quality templates, you may want to look elsewhere.

To Sum up – When to Go for 3dcart?

Is 3dcart recommended? It is not the wrong platform to go for. However, it’s not stellar in many areas, either. It’s another solid entry in the never-ending slew of e-commerce platforms. Whether or not one should choose 3dcart over its top competitors is going to come down to a small number of variables. Therefore, you should also checkout Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, and WooCommerce. If you’re just getting started, I’d suggest trialing a few of the top platforms in the industry and pick the one that clicks for you and your team. Hence, if you land on 3dcart, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

  • If you’re sick of transaction fees with your platform, sign up with 3dcart.
  • If you want the most amount of payment gateways as possible, go for 3dcart.
  • If you are looking for a leading e-commerce software for SEO, pick 3dcart, and you won’t regret it.
  • If you are looking for a quality customer service available 24/7, go for 3dcart.
